With our busy lives it can be easy to miss out taking good care of our skin, even more so when it comes to using a moisturiser all over our body.

If your skin feels and looks ok you may even wonder why to bother and prefer to just shower/bathe and throw your clothes on and forget about the idea all togther, it may feel like a hassle and you have no idea which product is suitable, however you may be missing out on an essential beauty ritual that need not be time consuming or difficult and once incorporated you may wonder how you ever missed it out!
How can using a body moisturiser enhance the overall health and appearance of your skin and boost well-being you ask?
And what is the benefit of different types, what is best for my skin?
See my suggestions below as to the why and what and how choose the best for your routine and skin.
Taking care of your skin is essential to maintain its health and beauty.
Regularly using a body moisturiser offers numerous benefits that can transform your skin, leaving it hydrated, soft, and glowing see my reasons below;
1.) Self love and body awareness
I’m Including this step as the first and actually most important, I could have listed it last as it may sound woowoo to some, however there’s several very practical and well-being enhancing reasons for using a body moisturising product; I’ll start with the practical, when you take the time to apply something to the surface of your skin you get to explore all the lumps, curves and bumps those that should be there and those that are new, not to bring you concern yet it allows for a greater awareness of our own body.
I once had a customer who upon using my Body butter rediscovered a little harmless lump she had forgotten all about, it had enlarged yet it gave her the push to get it checked out and cleared as benign.
You can also feel into your muscles and give helpful feedback to your body about any tension or sore spots, this feedback helps the body to adjust and relax.
The act of massaging into our own skin is very calming and soothing to the nervous system, reducing stress and boosting our sense of confidence and self esteem.
This is a wonderful way to show yourself love and self care.
2.) Deep Hydration
Dry skin can lead to a range of problems, including itching, flaking, and a dull complexion.
Body moisturisers are formulated to provide deep hydration to your skin, replenishing its moisture levels and preventing dryness.
By locking in moisture, a good body moisturiser acts as a barrier, protecting your skin from external factors that can further deplete its hydration.
Skin issues such as psoriasis and eczema can be treated and improved from using the right kind of moisturising (more on that further on)
3.)Enhanced Skin Elasticity
Regular application of a good quality body moisturiser helps improve the elasticity of your skin. As we age, our skin loses its natural firmness and elasticity, leading to sagging and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
By regularly moisturising you can restore and maintain the suppleness and elasticity of your skin, massage can encourage collagen production and by using a natural and nutritious product will help give your skin a more youthful and radiant appearance.
4.)Soothes and Calms Irritation
If you have sensitive or irritated skin, a body moisturiser can provide much-needed relief. Ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter and certain plant essential oils known for their calming and soothing properties. These ingredients help to reduce redness, inflammation, and itchiness, making a body moisturiser an ideal choice for those with dry, sensitive, or eczema-prone skin.
5.)Improves Skin Texture
Uneven patchy skin texture can make your skin look dull and lackluster. A body moisturiser contains ingredients that work to improve the texture of your skin, making it smoother, softer, and more even-toned . By promoting cell turnover and exfoliation, a body moisturiser helps remove dead skin cells, revealing a fresh and rejuvenated layer of skin.
6) Scen-tual Mood uplift
When using a natural body moisturising product you not only gain the benefits of self care touch yet combining plant essential oils and their uplifting scents properties can take your beauty routine to a whole new level, natural chemicals in these plant oils can boost your mood to positively set up your day ahead or de-stress and unwind at the end of the day you can become so used to this wonderful routine you won’t want to miss it out.
The various types of body moisturising product are listed below, I’ve put them in order of the time it usually takes to apply the first taking the longest, this is not an exact science and all can be adapted to suit your routine.
Body butter- Rich and indulgent.
Most suitable for; very dry, dehydrated, mature, itchy, eczema, psoriasis, patchy or those wanting a truly indulgent product.
This is the most Hydrating of them all, a butter can be smooth and well buttery or whipped and mousse like in texture.
Usually made from a combination of plant butters such as shea, mango, coconut or Cocoa and combined with a plant oils such as Sunflower, Olive, Argan, Apricot or Jojoba.
It will not only be deeply nourishing to the skin while providing a protective nature due to the rich butters.
This is not a quick product to use it requires your attention and a little time, some massaging in and a small space of carved out to use it, I suggest to my customers they need to spend a few minutes walking around in the nude after applying! This is to allow the rich texture to soak in and not be absorbed by clothing.
Why not make a beauty ritual after a bath or shower, light a candle, play some music and smooth it on!
Body oil- smooth and sensual
Most suitable for; Dry, normal, itchy skin, those enjoying self massage or the smooth silky feel and easy absorbancy of oil.
Oil had long been used throughout history for beauty massage and for skincare purposes.
There are so many types to choose from such as Argan, Safflower, Sunflower, Avocado, Rosehip, Borage, Jojoba.
Full of essential fatty acids (the building blocks of the fat in our body and food), vitamins and minerals ready to be absorbed.
Depending on the type of oil used when applied in careful measure it can be readily absorbed by the skin, massage is required to help the skin uptake yet it makes for a wonderful carrier for essential oils and their multitude of benefits, for improving the skin appearance by boosting circulation, healing scar tissue, helping treat cellulite, reducing skin irritation whilst having antibacterial, anti-inflammtory properties.
Oil can penetrate to our deeper layers of skin allowing for healing, increasing suppleness and health of the skin.
It doesn’t always posses the rich, protective and longer lasting moisture of a butter or cream so those with very dry skin will require a different product for a longer hydrating effect and long lasting skin feel.
Body cream- Smooth and indulgent
Suitable for; Dry, patchy, flaky, itchy, mature, inflamed.
A body cream can be a wonderfully indulgent product without the time required for absorption of a butter or oil.
A cream can be a combination of plant butters oils, waxes and an aqueous aspect usually water or ingredients like Aloe vera gel and glycerin.
It provides a rich feel, great protective qualities and long lasting moisturising effect.
It is another wonderful carrier of essential oils and their beautiful scent.
Body lotion- light and luscious
Most Suitable for normal, even skin, dry, itchy or those that like a quick bodycare routine.
The composition of a lotion is similar to a cream yet the aqueous aspect will be higher allowing for a much lighter, less oily feel and quicker absorption.
Many natural lotions are very nutritious yet contain lighter plant oils such as Safflower and Jojoba yet glide onto the skin easily and soak in rapidly allowing you to dress almost straight away and go!
Lotion allows for the application of a protective layer and essential oils contained within it, due to the lighter texture the scent of the oils can evaporate off much quicker giving us an instant mood boost and gratification.
Those with dryer skin types may find this product inadequate to leave their skin satiated and would need to apply more than once a day, where as a cream or butter will be enough using just once.
Conclusion:
Regularly using a body moisturiser is a crucial step in achieving and maintaining healthy, hydrated, and radiant skin. By providing deep hydration, improving elasticity, soothing irritation, preventing premature aging, improving skin texture, and relieving dryness.
Combined with conscious loving care and touch Incorporate this simple yet effective skincare step into your routine, and watch as your skin transforms into a glowing testament to self-care and well-being.
